PLAYBOY ARGUS 07-03-1998PLAYBOY ARGUS II 07-03-1998

Jennifer Garrietts, Argus Leader, Friday, July 3, 1998, Sioux Falls, SD

On or around July 1, 1998, Spirit Lake Police Chief Dan Thompson gave an interview to Jennifer Garrietts of the Argus Leader newspaper out of Sioux Falls, SD and was featured on the front page of the Friday, July 3, 1998, edition of the “Argus Leader” .

For many years the Spirit Lake, Okoboji, Arnolds Park, Milford area has been known for drunken parties, under-aged drinking and general brawling from Memorial Day through Labor Day with the high point being July 4th. In 1998 a group of under-drinking-age teens came from Fort Dodge, Iowa, to do just that, Drink, Party and have Sex.

The gist of Chief Thompson’s statement was, “he (Chief Thompson) was going to stop this behavior”. So on July 3rd, 1998, ol’ Chief Dan and two of his six officers were patrolling in golf carts around the Cenla campground area to maintain Law and Order. The rest of his officers were in the Okoboji and Arnolds Park. Amazing!

‘Cause while Chief Thompson was on golf-cart patrol around Cenla Camp, an 18 year-old Tanya from Fort Dodge alleged she was raped on the west side of Center Lake while ol’ Chief Dan was toolin’ around the east side of Center Lake in the Cenla Campground.

According to Tanya, she had ‘partied’ with her friends along with Capt’n Morgan, Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, Johnny Walker while the Grey Goose was watchin’ Sam Adams cuddling with the Blue Nun most of the afternoon and early evening in a party room at the New Inn on West Lake Okoboji. The decision was made to go to the Ritz bar and make more ‘bed-frame and bar’ friends.

And the scene is set!

John L. Sandy, Spirit Lake, IA, attorney and arbitrator states in recorded telephone conversation with a friend concerning his ‘arbitration’ of Iowa Administrative Judge Susan Ackerman,

“…It went perfectly well for me. I get paid…in fact, I got paid to drive three and a half hours this morning that I didn’t drive…”

Heitshusen, Sonya, “Attorney Caught on Tape Raises Ethical Questions”, whotv.com, May 19, 2016, pages 1 & 2, Web, August 17, 2016.

“…but the real indication of a political motivations by Sandy (who upheld the firing of Iowa Administrative Judge Susan Ackerman) came in a telephone conversation he (John Sandy) had after the hearing on Ackerman’s case…accused Ackerman of ‘badmouthing the new administration’ and said he (John Sandy) had read of her case in the newspaper, which could give him a preconceived opinion on how he should rule.  At the hearing he (John Sandy) claimed to know nothing about the case.  He (John Sandy) also boasted of being paid to drive three and a half hours, which he said he had not driven…”

The family of Lincoln D. Belken knows all-too-well the ‘money-oriented ethics’ and mediocre to abysmally poor legal skills of John L. Sandy of Spirit Lake, IA. We know all-too-well John L. Sandy’s failure to adequately represent his innocent client. The family knows John L. Sandy literally threw his client Lincoln D. Belken under the proverbial prison bus. Through John Sandy’s courtroom incompetence or perhaps something more sinister, he ensured all alibi witnesses were discredited by not allowing them to testify to the truth.

More to Come
